The 39th Annual Probate & Trust Law Section Conference will be held at the Saint Paul RiverCentre this year on Monday, June 10, 2013 and Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Keynote speakers will include Professor Samuel A. Donaldson of Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta, Georgia, Susan T. Over the course of the two-day conference, there will be five breakout sessions addressing the concerns of members of the legal profession involved in drafting and administering probate and trust legal instruments. Minnesota CLE is applying to the Minnesota State Board of CLE for CLE credits for lawyers who attend the conference.

The 31st Annual AIHA Annual Conference, held in Philadelphia, PA hosted healthcare auditors from around the nation. This year’s theme was “Independence and Beyond: Assurance, Insight and Value.” Denise Cicchella, President of Auspicium was pleased to present in the Specialty track and taught auditors best practices in Transition Management of new and renovated healthcare facilities. Previously working with several large hospitals, Auspicium has helped clients assess risk, develop plans, and analyze plans associated with moving patients, staff, equipment, machinery, medications and other items from one facility to another.

Even if the new facility is across the street, transition management of healthcare facilities involves complex maneuvers that need to be carefully planned, coordinated and communicated. Reliance is placed on employees, vendors, patients, patient families, the community and medical specialists working together to ensure a smooth transition and the safety of everyone and everything involved. Coupled with that is the fact that there are a lot of unknowns and unplanned “events” that can change plans at a moment’s notice; for example, patient population and census changes daily.

Identifying and knowing the risks are just as important as being able to control them. Transition management involves more then just moving patients from one site to another. It involves training staff on new facilities, protecting patients’ rights, maintaining patient safety and ensuring the protection of assets as they go from old facility to moving vendor to new facility.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the basic risks and plans associated with transition management and to learn first hand about real life examples of problems others ran into during this delicate process and phase.    The presentation was well received by attendees , who felt they received valuable information that they could implicate at their own workplace and during their next transition.

Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) experts will present compelling cases studies on measuring the economic impact of neighborhood revitalization as well as bringing a green grocer to a food desert at the National Association of Housing and Community Development Officials (NAHRO) Annual Conference and Exhibition this week in St. Louis, Mo.

Dr. Roy Pearson, Professor Emeritus of The College of William & Mary’s Mason School of Business and Ed Ware, Director of Communications and Marketing for NRHA, will present the neighborhood revitalization session on Oct. 24.

Housing Authority financed the $ 22 million Jazz @ Walter Circle by utilizing U.S. Department of Treasury New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) provided by HRV as well as HUD public housing development grant funds. It is the first ever mixed-use development to be funded in this way. Jazz @ Walter Circle will bring a green grocer, geriatric medical care, a credit union and 74 senior rental housing units to an area that is historically underserved. Later that day, NRHA will receive a NAHRO National Award of Excellence for its ongoing transformation of the 44-acre Grandy Village assisted rental community. The project consists of the construction of the first U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified Gold development in Norfolk, the Grandy Village Learning Center, as well as renovation of the 341 apartment units originally built in 1953, construction of 11 new Energy Star-certified duplex units, site improvements and wetlands restoration.
